swarf
swarf: Where raw meets refined.
swarf is a range of unique brooches designed by PDE student Declan Mckerry. Machine swarf, fine metallic shavings formed during machining processes, contributes to over 100,000 tons of landfill waste per year in the UK. Taking inspiration from geometric design movements like Constructivism and abstract art, “swarf” transforms the raw, chaotic nature of swarf and contrasts it with precise and polished machined forms. The brooches challenge the wearer to embrace this byproduct and transform waste into a statement of beauty and purpose.
Each brooch is unique, enabling wearers to choose a design that suits their individual style.
